Education in Suffolk
Welcome from our new Head Teacher
It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the New Headteacher of The Ryes College. My name is Daniel Lawrence and I have been married for 17years and have two great children.
My life and work have taken me across every possible school type, mainstream, independent and specialist school as well as experience working in Brazil.
During the last few years, I have worked in Senior Leadership level and now feel very privileged to have been appointed the new Headteacher at the Ryes College.
Daniel Lawrence Our Head Teacher
On my first visit to the school, I met some of the staff and a few pupils, and I was very impressed with how much the staff care and want to help pupils achieve the best outcomes. I was equally impressed with how many students were so motivated to learn. Now, after a little over two weeks, I am confident that the students here at the Ryes have the potential to be very successful and to lead independent lives on leaving the school.
Over the next few weeks I will be working hard with the staff, and through discussion with our young people and in community lessons, to provide a framework for the culture of learning, resilience and respectfulness that we want to see at the Ryes. I believe that students will thrive at the school if they are given those opportunities to be the very best they can.
Over the next month or so, I will be sharing the ongoing vision that I have for the school, the Secure Base Model that provides the foundation for all the good practice at the school and let you know more about the journey that we are on.
Whats it like at The Ryes College?
The Ryes College is a caring school environment where our young people are given a personalised curriculum to help them to reach their potential.
In addition to the standard school curriculum, we offer opportunities for fundraising, enterprise, vocational courses and volunteering in the community, on a range of projects to develop social skills, employ-ability and economic well-being.
We are based on a beautiful five acre former farm site in the open countryside near Sudbury, Suffolk which enables us to offer unique learning experiences.
Our excellent staff team are committed and dedicated in ensuring that each and every young person achieves. Whilst our website will give you a flavour of what makes The Ryes College a great school, we highly recommend coming to visit us so that you can see us and our young people in action.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to come and see us
The Ryes Education strive to empower our young people to be better citizens who can make a positive contribution to their community and, in turn, achieve economic well-being and the inner strength to fulfill their aspirations.
We know that many of our young people have had negative learning experiences before they arrive. Our school provides a personalised curriculum ensuring that programmes of study suit the individual range of needs, interests and learning styles of the young people that attend, both inside and outside the classroom. This enables them to re-engage in learning in a more positive way as well as building their self-esteem and confidence when they start to see their successes.
We have developed strong links with colleges and other vocational providers enabling young people a wider net of opportunities and experiences in preparation for the world of work. Fundraising and charity work are at the heart of our community, promoting not only economic well-being, but an awareness and empathy towards others.
Through the elements of the Secure Base Model, we see each young person as the centre of our organisation. Staff are nurturing and supportive of our young people, building positive relationships and lasting memories for each child.
