Education in Suffolk
Welcome from our new Head Teacher
It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself as the New Headteacher of The Ryes College. My name is Daniel Lawrence and I have been married for 17years and have two great children.
I took up the post of Headteacher in January 2020 and am already loving leading and being a part of this amazing school.
Shortly after arriving at the school, I wrote to let you know that I would be providing you with regular updates about our amazing school. It has certainly been a challenging time, but I am loving leading and being part of this amazing group of staff and students.
Daniel Lawrence Head Teacher
The last three months have been very challenging, not only because of the COVID-19 outbreak which has seen a large number of students staying at home, but also because very early on we had a visit from Ofsted. This visit highlighted some areas that needed improving. We have rectified a number of issues and are working through our improvement plan to ensure our pupils not only feel safe, but are working hard to develop their behaviours. Where as a parent you can support us, is to have conversations with your child about the any issues that the staff team share with you. I also want our students to be able to enjoy being part of our school and gain skills and qualifications to prepare them for their future lives.
Over the next few weeks I will be working hard with the staff, and through discussion with our young people and in community lessons, to provide a framework for the culture of learning, resilience and respectfulness that we want to see at The Ryes College. I believe that students will thrive at the school if they are given those opportunities to be the very best they can.
We are missing our students, and look forward to their return. I realise for many parents that this has been a very difficult time and would like to thank you for all the support that shown us through our regular phone calls.
I like to run an open and welcoming school. So if you have any questions, queries or feedback please don’t hesitate to pick up the phone or email me and I`ll happily discuss any questions you may have. I would also like to think that once we have come through this time of national crisis with the COVID-19 outbreak, that I can invite you back to the school to meet with myself and the Senior Leadership Team.
Whats it like at The Ryes College?
The Ryes College is a caring school environment where our young people are given a personalised curriculum to help them to reach their potential.
In addition to the standard school curriculum, we offer opportunities for fundraising, enterprise, vocational courses and volunteering in the community, on a range of projects to develop social skills, employ-ability and economic well-being.
We are based on a beautiful five acre former farm site in the open countryside near Sudbury, Suffolk which enables us to offer unique learning experiences.
Our excellent staff team are committed and dedicated in ensuring that each and every young person achieves. Whilst our website will give you a flavour of what makes The Ryes College a great school, we highly recommend coming to visit us so that you can see us and our young people in action.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to come and see us
The Ryes Education strive to empower our young people to be better citizens who can make a positive contribution to their community and, in turn, achieve economic well-being and the inner strength to fulfill their aspirations.
We know that many of our young people have had negative learning experiences before they arrive. Our school provides a personalised curriculum ensuring that programmes of study suit the individual range of needs, interests and learning styles of the young people that attend, both inside and outside the classroom. This enables them to re-engage in learning in a more positive way as well as building their self-esteem and confidence when they start to see their successes.
We have developed strong links with colleges and other vocational providers enabling young people a wider net of opportunities and experiences in preparation for the world of work. Fundraising and charity work are at the heart of our community, promoting not only economic well-being, but an awareness and empathy towards others.
Through the elements of the Secure Base Model, we see each young person as the centre of our organisation. Staff are nurturing and supportive of our young people, building positive relationships and lasting memories for each child.
